The Top three threats to Homeland Security

International terrorism is one of the top homeland security threats to the U.S. This is evident by the number of everyday threats about potential terrorists attacks directed to America. Despite the intensity of the U.S. led war on terrorism, terrorists groups have notably adopted new strategies like decentralization of their network cells with little or no hierarchical institution control. This is further complicated by the fact that terrorist groups are teaming with other organized crime groups to execute their terrorist activities. All these new strategies have made it hard to identify and destroy terrorism thus making it a long running threat to the U.S. homeland security.

Another top threat to home security is the continued existence of organized crime groups. Statistics indicate that organized crime groups are the main reason behind human and illegal drug trafficking in the U.S. nation. Still, such groups have posed unfair market competition control in their areas of dominance. These are seen not only as an economic loss through tax evasion but also a threat to the anti-competitive practice policies of our nation. Organized crime groups, with their strong political and government influence, are therefore a real threat to the economy and security of Americans.

The last is natural disasters. Though many perceive natural disasters as regional public problems, the ultimate impact is felt in the whole nation. Such include hurricane, floods, droughts, earthquakes, and tidal waves. These natural occurrences have occurred in the past, can reoccur, and their threat to lives and properties of Americans are known. Still, on natural disasters are disease epidemics in some communities. The problem of HIVAIDS among Black Americans, for example, poses a major threat to the sustainable existence of this community.
