To The Senator,

I am a student at Durham University and theres a big problem regarding students discrimination based on race, sex and gender, social class, sexual orientation and disability and create alliances towards peace keeping in the institutions and the society at large. The worst of this is racial discrimination. And even the administration is discriminating students on racial lines. In our canteens there are two service points for the whites and blacks, in the university library theres a section for the blacks, and they are not allowed to go to areas reserved for the whites.

This beautiful country is admired by the world. We are in danger of losing our reputation to a point of no return unless immediate action is taken. I believe, you can use various tactics to bring the students together and make them appreciate their differences.  I would like to note that in the past you have actively participated in ensuring that theres no racial discrimination. You set up a social park and also organized interracial fun days and sports, all these encouraged bonding and made people to live as one. I know nowadays you have a tighter schedule, but I believe if you task someone to organize these kinds of activities, the spirit of racism will disappear and also people will focus on greater development projects.

I would like to congratulate you on the various commissions you have spearheaded and I know by you setting up a team to oversee this. All the students fraternity will come together and coexist peacefully with no animosity. I urge you to support our institutions in understanding their sole purpose of generation of knowledge to the students so as to create a literate nation and be positive on each other. I look forward to hearing your comments on this issue.

Sincerely,
Jin Ying
Concerned Student
